Cherlyn Marshall Johnson was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She grew up in South Carolina, Washington, DC area and Downers Grove, IL. In High School she earned a full-ride Scholastic Art Scholarship. She moved to Denver, CO in 1983, graduated from University of Denver and interned with William Matthews & Company.

For most of Cherlyn’s professional career she ran an in-house agency for Club Sports International, traveling to over 42 athletic clubs and spas, designing logos and marketing materials. In 2003, she went on to the next phase of her career. Inspired by views from airplanes she began painting Ariel Landscapes. When Cherlyn is not painting she pursues her passion for digital storytelling and is working on a large instillation piece. She is also studying with local artists, Molly Davis and Chuck Ceraso.

Cherlyn currently lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband, Dr. Lonnie Johnson. They enjoy road trips and hiking with their Jack Russell Terriers, Caley and Bandit.
